Este projeto foi realizado no âmbito académico no primeiro ano de licenciatura de Design Gráfico. O proposto pelo docente foi o re-design de um packaging de um disco vinil à nossa escolha. Decidi optar pelo Bob Marley por ser um artista que esteve presente na minha infância e que considerei ser desafiante pois decidi não utilizar a face do mesmo, tal como tinha sido feito em maior parte dos discos.
This project was carried out in the academic context of the Graphic Design degree’ s first year. The professor suggested the re-design of the packaging of a vinyl record of our choice. I chose Bob Marley because he was an artist present in my childhood and I considered it a challenge because I decided not to use his face, as it had been done on most records.
O desafio maior foi, definitivamente, criar uma alusão a Bob Marley mas sem a utilização da imagem dele. Decidi então fazer uma junção do reggae, da espiritualidade do artista, das cores da bandeira Jamaicana, do consumo da Marijuana e da sua alteração de perceção e transmitir isso numa tela psicadélica invertendo por fim as cores que representava uma das frases icónicas do artista "Vocês riem de mim por eu ser diferente, e eu rio de vocês por serem todos iguais".
The biggest challenge was, definitely, to create an allusion to Bob Marley without using his image. So I decided to make a combination of reggae, the artist's spirituality, the colors of the Jamaican flag, the consumption of Marijuana and its altered perception and transmit this on a psychedelic canvas, finally inverting the colors that represented one of the artist's iconic phrases "You laugh at me for being different, and I laugh at you for being all the same".
